Some of the caves date back to 1000 BC, when prehistoric Sri Lankans would have lived within them, so it is unsurprising that they would have created temples inside at that time. The south coast of Sri Lanka is a surfers paradise. Around each corner is a new break being enjoyed by only a handful. Before the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami, the bay was rapidly becoming one of the world’s top surf destinations.
